We arrived in Ft. Lauderdale this morning at 6:30am, after a very uncomfortable flight. Emilio and I didn’t get seats together and we both were stuck in middle seats. For the entire overnight flight, I played the game where I would fall asleep and then my head would fall forward and I would snap awake…and repeat. As soon as we got off the flight, we found two seats in an uncrowded area and went back to sleep till 9:30.

Some previous searches about how to waste time on a 10-hour layover suggested that we go to Las Olas Blvd for restaurants and shopping. If you ever have a layover in Ft. Lauderdale, don’t do that. Go straight to the beach. After eating breakfast on Las Olas, we wised up and walked two miles (with our backpacks, mind you – but also much needed fresh air and exercise for how much airplane sitting we are doing) to the beach. Much better. We walked down the strip, saw this huge Christmas sand castle, and then settled into a bar for oversized margaritas.

And now we are back at the airport! Next destination – Lima, Peru.
